Position of Vice President for Secondary and Primary Education
at the American Farm School

About our Schools and Educational Programs
The American Farm School’s historic Secondary School offers contemporary academic instruction in science and technology, and practical skills instruction in ecologically sound agriculture and food technology methods. The majority of students in the Secondary School board on campus and the School offers a comprehensive residential life program. Recently, the institution successfully launched an innovative primary education division with a focus on environmental education. Perrotis College, which offers B.Sc. degrees in the fields of Environmental Systems Management, International Business and Food Science and Technology, is also under the institutional umbrella of the American Farm School.

English language proficiency, the teaching of Science and information technology, and a learn by doing approach are essential elements of all our programs. The educational farm and science laboratories give students applied research and hands-on experience (www.afs.edu.gr).

Position scope
Reporting to the President of the Institution, the Vice President for Secondary and Primary Education will provide leadership and direction consistent with the goals and mission of the institution and its Secondary and Primary Schools.

Job description
The Vice President for Secondary and Primary Education, in collaboration with the Secondary and Primary Schools Principals, oversees and is personally responsible for the successful operation of these Schools and more particularly for:
-  academic excellence, organizational efficiency and financial sustainability;
-  curriculum development and implementation, with emphasis on the experiential teaching of STEM;
-  the extra-curricular programs;
-  teacher recruitment, coordination, evaluation and development;
-  participation in the development and implementation of academic strategic planning;
-  development of innovative academic initiatives and projects;
-  representation of the School(s) in national and international academic networks, government bodies and the community; and
-  the boarding department and student life services.

Qualifications and characteristics
Candidates should possess: 
-  terminal degree (Ph.D.) in educational leadership, curriculum development, Agriculture or Natural Sciences;
-  a Bachelor or Masters degree in one of the Natural Sciences, Technology or Agriculture;
-  ten years of teaching experience in secondary education, preferably in an international school environment;
-  demonstrated success as an academic administrator; and 
-  excellent English writing and speaking, even though Greek is the primary language of instruction.

Additional personal characteristics: commitment to academic innovation and excellence, experience in experiential and student-centered educational approaches, high work ethics, professional integrity, exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, strategic and analytical capacity and a collaborative work style.

A competitive salary and benefits package is offered that may include housing on campus. The appointment will start on September 1st.

at the Pre-Kindergarten of the American Farm School

Since 2011, the American Farm School operates a Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) School which offers an extended, experiential and innovative program to children aged 2,5 to 5 years old focused on environmental education.

The following job vacancies for the school year 2014-2105 at the Pre-K School are announced below:

Α. Pre-K School Principal

The Pre-K School Principal reports to the Primary Education Coordinator. S/he is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of the Pre-K educational program as well as for the organization and operation of the Pre-K School. S/he also provides teaching services to the program.

Required qualifications:
-  University Degree of relevant specialization (Early Childhood Care or/and Education)
-  A minimum of five year administrative and teaching experience in preschool education
-  Proficiency in English and the use of information technology

Additional qualifications, knowledge and skills:
-  Postgraduate studies in Early Childhood or Environmental Education
-  Knowledge and experience in modern methods of experiential and environmental education
-  Experience in the development of Pre-K educational programs
-  Experience in recruitment, guidance and development of a highly motivated teaching team
-  Ability to manage the program’s resources and to support the Director of Enrollment in the promotion of the program

Β. Teaching Staff Vacancies

i. One Full-time Pre-K teacher
ii. Three part-time Pre-K teaching assistants

Required qualifications, knowledge and skills:

For the Pre-K teacher:
University Degree of relevant specialization
-  Three year teaching experience in preschool education
-  Postgraduate studies in Early Childhood or Environment Education will be appreciated
-  Proficiency in English and the use of information technology
-  Knowledge and experience in modern methods of experiential and environmental education

For the Pre-K teaching assistants:
Degree – diploma of relevant specialization (ΙΕΚ, ΤΕΙ, ΑΕΙ)
-  Very good knowledge of English and the use of information technology

Position of Study Abroad Coordinator

About our Schools and Educational Programs
Perrotis College is a unique institution, a residential college located on the beautiful campus of the century-old American Farm School in Thessaloniki, Greece.  The College offers degree programs specializing in business, tourism, agricultural sciences and environmental studies to students from Europe, the U.S. and worldwide.

Position scope
Reporting to the President, the Study Abroad Program Coordinator will develop and organize the overall program and its activities.

Job description
The Program Coordinator will be responsible to:
- Carry out various activities to promote study abroad programs;
- Communicate with university study abroad offices and organizations in the US and elsewhere;
- Negotiate Memoranda of Understanding with various US and international institutions;
- Correspond with prospective applicants;
- Oversee the application process, including the submission of material, the acceptance process and the providing of pre-departure information;
- Organize activities (orientation, excursions, lectures, tours, etc.) for participants;
- Oversee the academic programs connected to study abroad;
- Manage the program budget;
- Liaison with various AFS staff and faculty regarding internships, the teaching and evaluation of courses, room and board arrangements, etc.
- Prepare an annual program evaluation report.

Qualifications and characteristics
Candidates should possess: 
- a Bachelor’s degree preferably from a 4-year American College or University;
- 3 years of experience in the development and organization of academic or/and extracurricular educational activities;
- organizational and administrative skills; and
- excellent English writing and speaking skills.

Additional personal characteristics: exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, a collaborative work style, adaptability to different cultural backgrounds, enthusiasm, creativity and self‐motivation.
