Employment Opportunities

Building on the long educational tradition of the American Farm School in Thessaloniki and its parent institution Iowa State University in USA, the AFS University of Science & Technology, AFSU – U.L.E. -subject to approval by the Greek State- aims to provide high-quality, English-language education in fields related to agriculture, food systems, life sciences, and agribusiness. Through a combination of disciplinary mastery, applied research, experiential learning and use of emerging technologies including AI, AFSU – U.L.E. will prepare students to address global challenges in sustainable agriculture, food production, and innovation in the agri-food sector.

Each of the Departments invite expressions of interest for full time and part time faculty positions of all academic ranks –Assistant/ Associate/ Full Professor- with a strong academic and professional background in corresponding field, with expertise in academic research, and applied field experience.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver courses in the relevant field.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative teaching and learning methods.
  • Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate student dissertations and theses.
  • Participate in curriculum development, assessment, departmental administration, and service to the institution (may vary depending on the rank and type of contract).
  • Provide student advising.
  • Plan and conduct independent research.  Develop and maintain a strong, independent research program with publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and participation in conferences.
  • Engage external stakeholders and international collaborators. Secure external research funding (national & international).
  • Participate in departmental, faculty, university and extension service; collaborate with industry, associations, government bodies, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Advise/consult farmers, food producers and related professionals on best practices.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • PhD in related fields.
  • Evidence of effective teaching ability in English and interest in pedagogy.
  • Experience in supervision of student theses and dissertations.
  • Good command of Greek and English language (spoken and written).
  • Excellent digital skills (Office Suite, Learning Management Systems e.g. Moodle).
  • Relative scientific background and professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and conducting field and/or lab experiments, where applicable.
  • Demonstrated excellence in research (publications, grants) and, for higher ranks, leadership in the field in the form of supervised doctoral and/or postdoctoral research and research group leadership.
  • Possess an established research network within Greece and abroad.
  • Proven ability to build partnerships between academia and industry.
  • Strong work ethic, professional integrity and a collaborative work style.
  • Analytical skills, communication, mentoring & advising, adaptability.
  • Academic or professional experience in the United States or in American institutions worldwide, and/or familiarity with the US higher education systems will be favorably assessed.

Perrotis College offers B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in the fields of Sustainable Agriculture and Management, Business Studies, Food Science & Technology and Environmental Science. The Department of Sustainable Agriculture and Management at Perrotis College invites applications for a full time faculty position with a strong academic and professional background in agronomy, with expertise in academic research, and applied field experience.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct research activities and supervise undergraduate and graduate student research
  • Develop and maintain a strong, independent research program with publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals
  • Secure external research funding (national & international)
  • Participate in departmental, faculty, and university service; collaborate with farmers, associations, government bodies, and other relevant stakeholders
  • Participate in curriculum development, assessment, departmental administration, and service to the institution.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in Precision Agriculture, Crop Production or related agronomy fields
  • Scientific background and experience in Precision Agriculture and Field Crop Production
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and conducting field and greenhouse experiments
  • Ability to advise and work with farmers on best practices in sustainable crop management
  • Broader experience in sustainable crop systems and regenerative agriculture
  • Evidence of effective teaching ability in English and interest in pedagogy
  • Demonstrated excellence in research (publications, grants) and, for higher ranks, leadership in the field
  • Good command of English (spoken and written)
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues and engage in interdisciplinary work

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience in fruit tree and olive production
  • Experience in greenhouse crop management
  • Academic or professional experience in the United States
  • Familiarity with the US and/or UK higher education systems
  • Knowledge of Greek language
